The band of snow will slowly weaken through Saturday with further accumulations over central and eastern areas of 5 cm or so in places. During the evening ice will form in many areas where there is snow cover, lasting into Sunday morning.
The public are advised to be aware of the continued risk of disruption to transport during this spell of wintry weather.
A front will continue its way northeastwards across the UK, weakening as it does so, but not completely displacing the cold air from the country. It will leave extensive areas of lying snow, the melting and refreezing of which is likely to lead to ice on roads.
The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here
