Met Office Issues Yellow & Amber Weather Warnings For Monday – Snow

Amber Warning

Heavy snow is expected to affect parts of northern England and the Scottish Borders on Monday. In the Amber area over 10 cm of snow is expected widely with over 20 cm in places. In addition, drifting is likely in strong to gale force easterly winds.

The public should be prepared for the risk of disruption to travel, and the likelihood of road closures, as well as possible disruption to power supplies.

The snow should gradually ease from the south during the day.

Yellow Warning

Valid to: 23:59 on Monday 21 January 2013

A band of snow is expected to affect parts of eastern and northern England as well as parts of southern and eastern Scotland on Monday. Over lower lying coastal areas accumulations are expected to be small whilst inland accumulations of 2-5cm are widely expected. Above 200 m in excess of 10 cm is possible.

The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel.

This warning has been updated to include eastern parts of Cumbria as well as to extend further west across Yorkshire and southern Scotland.
