Northumbria Police continues to monitor the situation on the region’s roads and is working with partners such as local authorities and the Highways Agency.
It is currently snowing in some areas of Northumberland and there are difficult driving conditions, particularly on the A68 north of Stagshaw Bank. All main roads in the force area are at the moment passable with care and the situation is being constantly monitored.
Officers continue to ask motorists to only travel if necessary, be aware of any snow and ice on the roads and to reduce their speed and drive according to the road conditions, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
Conditions remain difficult and police are asking motorists to take care on the roads during rush hour, particularly on secondary routes and side and rural roads.
