Heavy and thundery showers will continue to affect parts of north east England overnight and into Tuesday morning. They are likely to become slow-moving in places, perhaps giving several hours of persistent and heavy rain across a small area, with potential for some localised flooding before the heavier showers move away offshore during the morning.
Chief Forecaster’s Assessment
Bands of showers, with a history of thunder, localised downpours and squally winds, may become slow-moving overnight. This is most likely across Teesside and parts of North Yorkshire and Durham. There remains considerable uncertainty, and much of the warning area may miss the heaviest rain. But if and where these bands persist, there is potential for 20mm of rain in an hour and perhaps 30-50 mm locally in just a few hours.
