Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning – Rain

Issued at: 12:28 on Thursday 3 December 2015

Valid from: 00:05 on Saturday 5 December 2015

Valid to: 06:00 on Sunday 6 December 2015

Outbreaks of rain will become persistent and heavy at times on Friday night and will last through Saturday, before clearing to the south of the warning area early on Sunday morning.

Please be aware of the likelihood of flooding, and that some moderate level disruption is possible.

Chief Forecaster’s Assessment

A frontal zone will move slowly south through the warning area and will bring a lengthy spell of heavy rain and strong winds.

Rainfall totals of 30-50mm are expected quite widely within the warning area, with 80 mm or more possible over higher ground in the west. Indeed there is a risk that parts of Cumbria could see in excess of 100 mm. Given saturated conditions some flooding is likely. There remains some uncertainty over the overall rainfall amounts and areas affected by the heaviest rain, so this warning will be kept under review and updated if and when necessary.
